Many different research activities occurred at Riverbank Labs, Geneva, Illinois, including decoding and deciphering enemy messages during World War I & II, deciphering alleged secret messages in the works of William Shakespeare, research in the field of architectural acoustics, groundbreaking research in the field of cryptology, fieldwork in the use of hand grenades and military trenches, research and development of tuning forks, and studies of human fitness and anatomy. The list is varied and fascinating. Riverbank is considered the direct lineal predecessor of the National Security Agency and Central Intelligence Agency.

The cryptographers were mainly there to prove that Bacon wrote Shakespeare's plays, but still ended up being the foundation for the NSA.Fabyan read in one of Bacon's works a description of a levitation device that allegedly worked on acoustic principles. He built one, but couldn't get it to fly, so he sent to Harvard University for some acoustic experts to help him. One discovery revealed by the code, previously known only to the Rosicrucians, is an acoustical levitating machine. A huge drum with piano strings stretched along its surface rotated within an outer casing with corresponding strings. As the strings vibrate, the outer shell is made to levitate.

The machine was a wooden tube with metal strings attached to it, around which fit another wooden tube with metal strings attached to the inside of it. The center tube was supposed to spin and by sympathetic vibration cause the strings on the outer tube to vibrate. The resonance from the striking would create a force field, which would levitate the outer tube off of the ground. Colonel Fabyan hired Bert Eisenhour, an engineer from Chicago, to construct this machine at Riverbank. Though the machine was constructed, it did not work. Eisenhour was convinced that the strings were not tuned properly, and suggested they consult someone knowledgeable in acoustics. Decipherment from Shakespeare's first folio produced the plans for the Baconian Acoustical Levitation Device, which Fabyan and his army managed to build. We did ours after hours, midnight shows. My actors broke the stage. Made me proud."

Tom Lyttle Memorial Site: The Psychedelic Yogi, Art & Entheogens


Thomas Lyttle (b. 5-5-55 / d. 9-5-08) was Publisher and Editor of the kaleidoscopic journal PSYCHEDELIC MONOGRAPHS & ESSAYS, the books PSYCHEDELICS and PSYCHEDELICS REIMAGINED (Autonomedia). Later, he sold signed blotters of non-impregnated blotter art. His articles were published by Feral Press, Disinformation, High Times, Boing Boing, New Times, Paranoia, many scholarly journals and underground zines. His blotter art included signed editions by pop icons Albert Hofmann, Timothy Leary, Peter Fonda, Allan Ginsberg, John Lilly, Ken Kesey, Ram Dass, Ira Cohen, Laura Huxley, Annie Sprinkle, Robert Anton Wilson, Alex Grey, H.R. Giger, Laurence Gartel and other noted figures of the international underground.

Ever mercurial, Lyttle's interviews and performance art included such gags as pasting postage stamps all over himself to prevent arrest as First-Class Mail. He was a quirky Trickster who could be very heartful in one moment and vitriolic in the next. Still, Lyttle's works were among the first to publically discuss DMT, Ibogaine, Ayahuasca, MDMA and the Holographic Paradigm. This memorial site is not an obituary but a celebration. Many have been in-formed by his scholarly and popular articles. Let him continue to inspire us. Madman or seer, Lyttle dared to make his unique contribution and left a footprint in this world and perhaps the next.

RITUAL MURDER: Public assassination is psychological warfare. In the mythic dimension, it is ritualistic drama. It echoes the ancient practice of the "Killing of the Divine King". From the seed of the event, televised slaughter, come the alchemical effects which transform society -- not for the better. The Group Mind or "dreaming mind" enters our awareness. The subtext is that forces that could get away with such ghastly public demonstrations of power could get away with anything.  Has the public been hoodwinked from the true meaning of these events by the shadow government or the governmental "Shadow" for which we all share responsibility? Is sorcery the root of history? Was it his destiny or misfortune that Martin embodied the archetype of the "Divine King," a "Black Messiah," that psychically forced his martyrdom? He sensed his fate before it claimed him. His was one of three Triple K Assassinations of iconic men "who would be kings." No matter who the perpetrators, does the collective psyche mandate the cyclic replay of such primordial themes of human culture or is it all just part of an imposed "shock doctrine"? Who, in fact, functions as judge, jury and executioner?  Does Rule by Survivorship mimic survival of the fittest or actually derail humanity's evolutionary arc?

PSYCHODRAMA: The divine life, incarnate in a material and mortal body, is liable to be tainted and corrupted by the weakness of the frail medium in which it is for a time enshrined; and if it is to be saved from the increasing enfeeblement which it must necessarily share with its human incarnation as he advances in years, it must be detached from him before, or at least as soon as, he exhibits signs of decay, in order to be transferred to a vigorous successor. This is done by killing the old representative of the god and conveying the divine spirit from him to a new incarnation. But in ancient times the killing was always associated implicitly, and sometimes explicitly, with a revival or resurrection of him in a more youthful and vigorous form
. The killing of the god, that is, of his human incarnation, is therefore merely a necessary step to his revival or resurrection in a better form. Far from being an extinction of the divine spirit, it is only the beginning of a purer and stronger manifestation of it. 

MYTHIC POLITICS: One explanation of the custom of killing divine persons assumes, or at least is readily combined with, is the idea that the soul of the slain divinity is transmitted to his successor. 
But the real purpose was to kill something within each of us, some part of the collective dream of freedom. This King encouraged the audacity to dream of a positive future. But, something within each and every one of us died, diminished by this tragic loss and the American Dream soured.  As in days of old, they were put to death when their political usefulness was over --upon serious failure of their power. But the successor who insures the "resurrection" of the Triple K figures has never appeared. In this way it echoes the Jesus story of the Second Coming in which everyone wishes to be resurrected must undergo the ritual death of baptism. But in any overt or covert political action we have to look to its generalized EFFECT on the populace. In the Triple K Assassinations it was shock, confusion and demoralization. It made people suspect and realize their government perpetrated a power grab. There were ritual killings of Irish kings and masonic "Killing of the king" rituals.

DMT is implicated in the wild imaginings of our nightly dreams, near-death phenomena (NDEs), alien abduction experiences, and dream yoga. It is also a source of visionary phenomena in therapy, such as unusual psychophysical states attained in waking dreams, shamanic or psychotherapeutic journeys.  Synthetic and botanical DMT crosses the blood-brain barrier and bonds to the same synaptic sites as serotonin. Psychedelic chemist, Sasha Shulgin claims, “DMT is everywhere.

Each night in dreams we experience an essentially psychedelic state. The principal difference between dreams and hallucinations is the way the stages of wakefulness are organized, with the suppression of REM sleep and the intrusion of PGO waves in the arousal (waking) stage and in NREM (or slow) sleep.
The stages include: waking (arousal) stage, stage of PGO waves, hallucination stage, sleep stage and hallucinatory manifestations. The waking dream eliminates “residues” stirred up by the PGO wave pattern in the absence of REM sleep. These visions resemble those at the approach of death, or what are called near death experiences (NDEs). In another context, they are perceived as visions.  They include the characteristics of two phases of NDEs (Sabom, 1982): Autoscopic phase includes 1) subjective feeling of being dead; 2) peace and well-being; 3) disembodiment; 4) visions of material objects and events.  The Transcendental phase includes 5) tunnel or dark zone; 6) evaluation of one’s past life; 7) light; 8) access to a transcendental world, entering in light; 9) encounter with other beings; 10) return to life.

But Strassman cautions those who take his initial research too literally:
  5-7-2010 I am surprised at how many people assume that the conjecture in my book about whether the pineal makes DMT, has actually been established as fact. *If* DMT were made in the pineal, it would tie a lot of loose ends together. But, we don't know if DMT does appear in the pineal. The same has happened regarding my wondering if endogenous DMT activity increases during particular non-drug altered states, such as dreams and near-death experiences.  We don't know if that's true.  If it were, it would help explain the psychedelic characteristics of those altered states. A new assay for low levels of endogenous DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, bufotenine, and metabolites is being developed at LSU.  We'll be looking at endogenous levels of these compounds in different tissues, different species, and different groups of people.  Hopefully we'll get some answers within the next year or two. The Cottonwood Research Foundation site (www.cottonwoodresearch.org) could be more up-to-date.  However, the section on the assay is more current and was written by Steve Barker at LSU, who's supervising the PhD student, Ethan McIlhenny. Sacred Geometries: Imagine that hundreds or even thousands of years ago, mystics anticipated the astounding findings of modern science by looking deeply within themselves to plumb the mysteries of the universe. .   The Book of Abramelin is the first modern translation of this magical work since Mathers’ original translation over 100 years ago.. It obsessed Aleister Crowley, who was unable to carry through the ritual it describes. Mathers only had a French exemplar of the text. More reliable German versions were discovered and published by Dehn in 1995/2001, in German. This is the English translation of that work. Not only is the language updated, but Georg Dehn, the compiler and editor, has sourced his work from all extant manuscripts, while Mathers used just one. The result is a stunning new translation that has already set the occult world abuzz. " The Book of Abramelin - A New Translation" by Dehn and Guth may very well be the finest contribution to modern esotericism in a generation. The author clearly defines that distinctions between calssical kabbalah, 'mixed-kabbalah,' and the 'Sacred Magic' as he is presenting it. It includes voluminous important material left out of Mathers’ work, including an entire Part 2 filled with magical recipes, important distinctions in the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel ritual, and complete word grids that were only partially completed by Mathers. This is an essential work for any serious practicing magician or student of occult history. The ultimate goal of Abramelin's Art is to gain direct conversation with your Holy Guardian Angel. There is also the book Abraham writes to his son, as an explanation of how the Treasure and the Art came into his hands. Anyone familiar with the Mathers version will also recognize the last book. It consists of magical squares that produce sundry effects by way of the spirits that are bound to them. Piety is the pre-requisite for occult power. An 18 month initiation involving fasting, prayer, study of the Holy Books, and doing good deeds, culminating in a union between the prospecive Magi and the Divine, completing both in the process.  Features include:

* There is a fourth book, in addition to the three Mathers translated from the French edition. This book deals with what Abraham calls the "mixed kabbalah". It is in effect a formulary of folk cures, charms, and nostrums that are not to be found at all in the Mathers edition.
* Instead of six months, the operation detailed here, is a much more complex 18 months.
* The squares from the final book that mesmerize so many students are completely different in the original German, than they are in the manuscript Mathers had worked from. Instead of 242, mostly incomplete squares, the German manuscripts show 251 squares, and every single one of them is completely filled in. That is to say, the Mathers version gave not only an incomplete list of squares, but out of the ones that are listed, two thirds are not completely filled in. What lines in the squares are filled in, you quickly discover, are misspelled, out of order, and almost wholly in disagreement with the original sources the present author uses.
* The author goes to great lengths retracing the steps of Abraham, making a case for his historcal reality, as well as the hermatage of Abramelin the "old father" himself.

About the Author Abraham von Worms, long thought to be a pseudonymous figure, is nearly conclusively proved to be a well-known 14th century Jewish scholar, Rabbi Jacob ben Moses ha Levi Moellin, more commonly known as MaHaRIL. Georg Dehn is a life-long student of all things esoteric, which led him on the quest to not only translate The Book of Abramelin, but also to following the original seeker's footsteps through the Middle East and eventually to the hermitage at Araki. He is the founder and publisher of Edition Araki, a German publishing company specializing in the occult. Dehn is the author of many works, Abramelin being the first to be translated into English. He lives in Leipzig, Germany.

ESOTERICS - SCIENCE - INTELLIGENCE: The science of mind-body-environment relationships, psychotronics is an interdisciplinary science concerned with the interactions of matter, energy, and consciousness.

From the early 1970's through the 1990's, Washington DC-based MRU research was one coherent force behind the paradigm shift that led to the holism revolution, the holographic paradigm, and human potential movement. MRU explored and pioneered New Technologies, Alternative Health Modalities, Consciousness Studies, Radionics and Subtle Energies.

Subjects included psychotronics, quantum mind, bioholography, biophotonics, mindbody, medical meditation, nonlocal healing, futuring, EVP, radionics, stress management, resonance, psychic & paranormal phenomena, scalar physics, psychism, channeling, Kirlian photography, dreamwork, rapid scan medical diagnostics, biofeedback, ESP & hypnosis, hypnotherapy, remote viewing, plasma physics, biomedical engineering, earth energies, mind control, entanglement, UFOs and a variety of other subjects that now captivate the public imagination.

PSYCHOTRONICS: Czech term for “parapsychology” (excluding the study of survival), but embracing certain phenomena that are not now generally accepted as parapsychological. According to (the late) Larissa Vilenskaya (1983, p. 107), the term was first proposed with the analogy of “bionics” in mind, to refer to “the field dealing with the construction of devices capable of enhancing and/or reproducing certain psi phenomena (such as psychokinesis in the case of ‘psychotronic generators’ developed by Robert Pavlita) and later embraced some other phenomena.” [Dale & White, 1977] The science and discipline of how life functions; includes the study of how technology interacts with the human mind, spirit, and body; science, mathematics, philosophy, metaphysics, and esoteric studies are united through the study of psychotronics; it would also include other realities and how we interface with other dimensions of existence; psychotronic devices use radionic tuning to transmit brain waves and are used as mind amplifiers. The first Psychotronic Conference was held in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in June of 1973.

MRU was among the vanguard that led to a revisioning of forbidden science as well as a holistic worldview, including self-care and self-regulatory practices. The collision of spiritual science with intelligence applications led to a revisioning of the nature of reality and our own reality in terms of extraordinary human potential. It remains for us to implement what was learned for good or evil.

MRU sought to move humanity forward toward a better, sustainable future in which each individual could optimize their own potential in a healthy society. We are in an era when the death of the outworn societal system is leading toward chaos, but a new healthier system can emerge from the chaos of transformation, much like it does in individual therapy when we face our shortcomings, challenges and need for radical change.  How well we learn and apply spiritual technologies and compassion may well be key in the global transformative process. At this juncture, where we are merging with our technology we must be proud to be flesh and learn to become more fully human even while we enhance our abilities and performance with hi tech innovations that make us cyborgs (h+) or immerse us in the virtualities of electronic worlds. 

MRU inspired later efforts of similar nature such as Journal of Nonlocal & Remote Mental Interaction. JNLRMI is a free online journal offering its readers a forum for the scientific investigation of our human potential. Based on current research in physics, parapsychology and complementary medicine, and drawing on the discipline of meditative arts such as qigong, the discussion revolves around the nature of space-time, causality, and individual selves; focused intentionality as a tool for shaping personal and social reality; the cultivation of mental energy and "psi" abilities; and the creation of global resonance to ensure a peaceful, meaningful and humane future for our planet.
